Glymur Waterfall is one of the most spectacular sights in Iceland. Located near the settlements of Borgarnes and Akranes, this waterfall towers 198 meters tall, making it one of the tallest waterfalls in the country. One thing that makes a visit to Glymur such a special experience is that you have to work a little bit to see it which means that there are way fewer people there and they're quite spread out. The hike to the top takes around 1,5-2 hours from the car park but you can decide how far up go you. My favourite route is to start on the right side of the canyon and when I reach the top, cross the river and go down on the other side.
QUICK NOTES:
What it is: A truly epic waterfall with a great hike.
Best season: Summer. It can get really dangerous during winter with the slippery rocks.
Best time of day: Any.
Nice to know: If you're up for it you can hike up one side and then down the other by crossing the river at the top. I usually go up on the right side and down on the left side.
