An orange lighthouse right by epic cliffs

The Svörtuloft Lighthouse in Iceland is like a scene straight out of a Wes Anderson movie, with its bright orange hue standing out against the black volcanic cliffs. Built in 1931, this quirky lighthouse offers stunning views of the western coastline and is definitely worth the drive down a narrow gravel road to reach it. Don't forget to stop by Skarðsvík beach on your way there for a rare sight of white sand in Iceland!

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A classic Icelandic orange lighthouse standing on epic cliffs, located on the tip of the Snæfellsnes peninsula.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Midday and sunset has the best light.

  • Nice to know: You can get epic shots of the lighthouse and cliffs during or right after storms when the waves come crashing. Best views are just north of the lighthouse.
