Raudsandur Beach is a 10km long beach in the Westfjords of Iceland. This beach has a unique reddish colour due to its crushed scallop shells and is an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts, as the changing light can create very interesting effects. Moreover, the winding mountain road leading to the beach is also kind of an adventure in itself.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A unique red sand beach in the Westfjords.

  • Best season: Summer.

  • Best time of day: Sunset for best light and high tide if you want to take a walk on the beach.

  • Nice to know: Try to be there during high tide so you can actually walk along the beach. There's also a cafe there which I recommend if it's open while you're there!
