Hvannadalshnúkur is a majestic peak in Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland. At an elevation of 2,109.6 meters (6,921 feet), it commands an awe-inspiring view of the region and is the highest point in the country. Visitors to the stunning locale can take an exciting climb up the mountain through numerous, hidden crevasses – but beware: experienced mountain guides are essential. This is always going to be an adventure for the books but it will require some physical abilities!

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: The highest peak of Iceland.

  • Best season: Summer

  • Best time of day: Start early so you'll come back down while it's still bright.

  • Nice to know: Don't go there without proper training and/or a guide, there are crevasses along the way.
