Message from Thrainn Kolbeinsson

Viking Village, located at Stokksnes in Iceland, was originally built for a Universal Studios movie but never used, so now it sits abandoned. You can explore the village, but I'd be careful entering any of the buildings as they are not maintained and could be dangerous.

In 2018, the Universal Studios acquired the rights to produce Vikingr, a movie about early Vikings and Icelandic adventures. The film used the village as one of its sets. More recently, Netflix announced that their series, The Witcher, would use the Viking Village film set and other Eastfjords attractions in filming the show’s prequel, Blood Origins.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: An abandoned Viking movie set in southeast Iceland

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Any but sunset is incredible there.

  • Nice to know: You can walk around the village, there's a real whale skeleton there, a viking ship replica and more. Kids love this place!
