Zebedee Springs holds a special place in my heart, and I was thrilled to make it there with my trusty 2WD van. Let me break it down for you: I visited in September, right at the tail end of the dry season, when the roads were bone dry and surprisingly manageable for a 2WD. However, for most of the year, Zebedee Springs is best accessed with a 4WD due to corrugated roads and several creek crossings. But fear not, even if you're in a 2WD, there's a workaround that's totally doable with a little extra effort.
If you're cruising in a 4WD, you can zip straight to the Zebedee carpark and take a leisurely 700-meter stroll to the springs on a flat, well-kept path.
Now, for those of us in a 2WD, here's the scoop: Head towards Amelia Gorge Carpark. The road here is rough with plenty of stones and a creek crossing, but with careful driving, it's definitely achievable. Once you've safely reached the carpark, gear up for a 3km walk to the springs. It's not an official trail, so follow the road towards the Zebedee Springs carpark. Round trip, you're looking at 6km, but trust me, the magic of Zebedee Springs makes every step worth it.
Another key detail about Zebedee Springs is these springs are only open to the public from 7 am to 12 pm. In the afternoon, they're reserved for tour groups, so an early start ensures you have ample time to bask in the rejuvenating waters. The springs are also only open between May and September in the dry season like most swim spots in the top of Aus, so make sure to plan your trip around these dates.
Now, let's dive into the springs themselves. The water maintains a delightful temperature between 29 to 32 degrees Celsius year-round, making it an absolute treat for your body. As you wander to the end of the path, you'll discover multiple spots perfect for a soak. Natural rock formations create little private hot tubs scattered along the stream. With a bit of rock scrambling, you can even follow the water's path to find a quieter pool to relax in. Just a heads up though—the limited opening hours mean these springs attract quite a few visitors.
