Port Stephens sand dunes are an absolute blast if you are in the area. These dunes are the largest moving coastal sand dunes in the Southern Hemisphere, stretching over 32 kilometers and rising up to 30 meters high. You can explore these dunes on your own if you have a 4WD however I have a 2WD so I did a sandboarding tour, which was an adventure packed with thrills and spills.

The tour cost $40, and it’s totally worth it for the adrenaline rush and stunning views. I was excited to hit the dunes, but things didn’t go exactly as planned. I managed to face plant spectacularly on my first run, and let me tell you, it was painful, I ended up with a sore neck that lingered for about two weeks. To make it even more memorable, I wiped out right in front of about 20 other visitors, which was beyond embarrassing. Despite the mishap, the sandboarding experience was really fun, and the dunes themselves are just gorgeous.

This experience will get your heart pumping just be careful if you decide to try it; the sand can be unforgiving. Overall, it's a fun and thrilling way to experience the natural beauty of Port Stephens, just maybe avoid face-planting if you can!
