Panteão Nacional ("National Pantheon") is also known as Igreja de Santa Engrácia ("Church of Santa Engrácia") and is located in the neighborhood of Alfama, overlooking the Tagus river.

The monument has an intriguing history, having served as a weaponry warehouse and as a shoe factory between the 19th and 20th centuries.

Besides its magnificent architecture and the fact that the most notable Portuguese personalities are entombed here, this remarkable monument hides an additional treasure: its terrace has a 360º viewpoint!

The remains of fado singer Amália Rodrigues, footballer Eusébio and several other writers and former presidents are kept at Panteão Nacional.
