Seealpsee is a beautiful lake nestled in the Alpstein range of Switzerland's Appenzell canton. It's a popular spot for everyone, offering stunning views and a tranquil atmosphere. You can reach the lake by foot from Wasserauen and there are several hiking routes that connect Seealpsee with other attractions in the Appenzell Alps. It is definitely one of those hot spots and many people visit it but in my opinion is absolutely worth to go at least once.
HOW TO GET THERE:
From Wasserauen train station follow the hiking sign towards Seealpsee. The first part of the hike is very steep nut eventually it will even out. It can take 1 hour to get to the lake. Distance is 2,8 km with 270 m of elevation gain. Once at the lake you can walk around it, it will add an extra 1,7 km.
You can also rent a boat at the nearest guesthouse. It is 5 franks for 30 minutes.
You can do picnics on the lake shore or stop at one of the restaurants. There are two: Berggasthaus Seealpsee and Forelle.
TIP: if you are feeling adventurous I recommend to continue you way from Seealpsee towards the back of the valley, following the sign towards Mesmeralps. There is a cute restaurant with some ponies and cows around. The view is incredible you can see the Seealpsee from a different perspective.
