A place name that has very different imagery for locals and foreign visitors.
This particular place is probably best googled to find out the best information about why this is famous but it is a place that will flash different images to different people.
For local Chinese, this is an iconic square that holds multiple historic monuments such as Mao Zedong's mausoleum and the Great Hall of the People.

Tinanmen Square is right at the heart of Beijing and is accessible by taxi, metro, bus etc. But, be prepared to be a little confused when finding the right entrance as all sides act a bit like a maze. I had the best luck when entering through the South East corner.
Please note that while the events took place a long time ago, the security presence in and around the square is still extremely high so be ready to be asked to move on if you are seen loitering, and please don't do anything silly.
