The Tessellated Pavement on the Tasman Peninsula is an incredible natural rock formation resembling a giant, intricate puzzle on the ground. This stunning site features flat rocks naturally divided into geometric shapes like rectangles and hexagons by cracks. Situated near the sea, the waves have polished the surface, giving it a unique, tiled appearance.
The formation is renowned for its two main features: "pans," which are concave areas that tend to dry out, and "loafs," which are raised structures created by water erosion. It's like nature's own mosaic, offering a fascinating glimpse into the artistry of geological processes.
For the best experience, visit at low tide when the patterns are fully revealed, making it ideal for photography and exploration. The site is easily accessible with just a short walk from the car park, only a couple of hundred meters, making it a perfect spot to stop and admire nature's funky artwork.
