Wave Rock in Western Australia is one of those iconic spots that’s definitely worth a bit of a detour if you're exploring the region. Located about 340 kilometers east of Perth, it’s roughly a 4-hour drive from the coast, so plan for a bit of a road trip adventure to get there. But trust me, the journey is totally worth it.
Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by this amazing natural formation, a giant, wave-shaped rock that looks like it’s frozen mid-crash. The rock is a fantastic photo op, and the colors and textures are mesmerizing, especially with the changing light throughout the day. The walk around the base is easy and gives you great views of this geological marvel, and if you’re up for it, there’s a short, 1.5-kilometer loop trail that takes you to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding plains. Even though it’s a bit of a drive, it is a fantastic way to break up the journey and experience one of Australia’s unique natural wonders.
