In between all the hikes in the Flinders Ranges, make sure to carve out some time for a drive along the Moralana Scenic Drive, it’s your golden ticket to spotting iconic wildlife and soaking in jaw-dropping views of the mountain ranges. This 30-kilometer dirt road adventure is like hitting the outback jackpot, complete with red dust trails, gum tree-lined creek beds, and endless blue skies. As you wind your way along, you'll be treated to panoramic vistas of rugged mountains and sweeping valleys that seem to stretch on forever.

The drive is perfect for a leisurely exploration, allowing you to stop at various lookout points to soak in the scenery and snap some fantastic photos. Watch out for striking geological formations and the stunning contrast between the red rocks and the deep blue sky. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for native wildlife; I even spotted about 40 sheep just chilling by the road! If you’re lucky, you might see kangaroos and emus adding a touch of excitement to your journey.

I loved the scenes here so much that I decided to film my first-ever YouTube video against the backdrop of the Flinders Ranges. I mean, how could I not with a view like that? For the best chance to see wildlife, I recommend hitting the drive early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Aussie animals are predominantly nocturnal, so they’re usually more active from dusk to dawn.

You don’t need a 4WD for this route; a 2WD will do just fine since the road is well-maintained. Just keep an eye on road conditions and drive safely. Whether you’re an avid photographer or simply someone who appreciates stunning natural beauty, this drive is a must-do. So, roll down your windows, feel the breeze, and let the Flinders Ranges unfold its grandeur right before your eyes.
