Visiting Mount Wellington is like scoring a front-row seat to the best view of Hobart. Rising 1,271 meters above sea level, this mountain feels like the big boss keeping a watchful eye over the city below. The drive up is quite the adventure, winding through lush forests that seem almost magical. I’ll admit, driving on those tight, steep roads with my van was a bit nerve-wracking for me, just a heads-up if you’re in a similar situation! And if you’re heading up in winter, be cautious; the roads can get dusted with snow and make things a bit slippery.
Once you reach the summit, the views are absolutely breathtaking. You’re treated to a killer panorama of Hobart and the surrounding landscape, making the drive totally worth it. At the top, there’s a fantastic lookout where you can check out the dolerite columns known as the Organ Pipes. These rock formations are seriously impressive and add a rugged charm to the mountain. There are several lookout points along the way where you can pull over, soak in the scenery, and snap some epic photos. If you’re a nature lover or just someone who appreciates a stunning view, Mount Wellington is a must-see.
