Beach
Blowhole Beach is definitely one of my favorite beaches in South Australia. It is a hidden gem in Deep Creek Conservation Park along the South Australian coastline, known for its mesmerizing blowhole rock formation that shoots water and mist into the air. Nestled in the Fleurieu Peninsula, this pristine beach offers a tranquil escape from city life with its crystal-clear waters, golden sand, and stunning cliffs. Here you can marvel at the natural spectacle of the blowhole, take scenic walks, relax on the beach, snorkel or dive in the clear waters, spot wildlife like kangaroos and echidnas, and even camp right by the ocean for a true nature immersion experience.
In terms of getting to the beach, it's a bit of an adventure. If you’re traveling in a 4WD, you’re all sweet to drive right down to the beach's car park. However, if, like me, you’re in a 2WD, you’ll have to embark on a pretty steep walk. After parking at the top car park and being greeted by at least 20 kangaroos chilling in the shade, my sister and I saw the start of the trail, which was labeled as a grade 4 hike. I remember thinking grade 4 for just a 3-kilometer return walk seemed ridiculous. But boy, oh boy, was I wrong. The way down is super chill, but be warned, after soaking up all the beauty the beach has to offer, you’re sure to work up a sweat on the way up, haha. Just be sure to wear sturdy shoes, as the rocks on the trail can be slippery and uneven.
The beach itself is spectacular, with breathtaking views and the roar of the waves adding an exhilarating touch to your visit. It’s a great spot for a bit of exploration, a relaxing stroll, or just soaking in the rugged beauty of the coastline. Overall, Blowhole Beach is a fantastic stop for nature lovers and those looking to experience some of South Australia’s dramatic coastal landscapes.
