The Bruny Baker is an iconic spot on Bruny Island, and it’s as charming as it is delicious. I stumbled upon this quirky roadside gem almost by accident, driving past at around 9 am and getting lucky as the fresh sourdough and cookies were just starting to sell out. The bakery is run by John, a passionate baker with a serious love for wood-fired ovens, and it operates on an honesty system.

You grab your goodies from an old fridge by the driveway, leave your payment (a loaf is around $8.00 and cookies are $2.00), and walk away with some of the best bread and cookies you’ve ever had in a while. The whole experience feels like discovering some treasure. The aroma of freshly baked bread hits you as you approach, and there’s a warm, welcoming vibe that makes you feel like part of the local community. Just make sure you visit early as it can sell out early.
