I’d never heard of Mount Greenly until I stumbled upon it on AllTrails while scouting locations for some branded hiking content. Also known as Millapa, this mountain on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula in the Coulta area is a hidden gem. Standing at 305 meters above sea level, it rises from the flat terrain and mallee trees, offering a unique contrast to its surroundings. The trail is a 3.9-kilometer return journey that starts off pleasantly flat before you have to scramble over some rocks to reach the summit.
I didn’t come across anyone else on this hike, seriously, not a single soul, so it’s perfect if you're looking to reconnect with nature and enjoy some solitude. Since the trail isn’t popular and isn’t very well-marked, I’d definitely recommend downloading a map before setting out. You probably won’t have reception, and I found myself lost a few times, retracing my steps to find the trail ahah. Despite the hiccups, the views from the top are worth every bit of the effort. The panorama of the surrounding ocean and hills is absolutely spectacular. If you’re exploring the Eyre Peninsula and want a hike that’s a bit off the beaten path, Mount Greenly is definitely a great find!
