Mercado de Campo de Ourique ("Campo de Ourique market") is a traditional market, inaugurated in 1934 and refurbished twice in 1991 and 2013, where you can find locally-produced fresh products, such as fish, vegetables and fruits, being sold on a daily basis. Some might say it is a smaller and less crowded version of Lisbon's Mercado da Ribeira, also known as Time Out Market.
On top of that, at Mercado de Campo de Ourique, there are also several shops selling traditional Portuguese products as well as a spacious food court where you can chose from several options, ranging from Japanese food, red meat and pork sandwiches, seafood, vegan food, deserts, etc. Each shop counter is dedicated to a specific kind of food. There is one dedicated liquor store as well.
Since the neighborhood of Campo de Ourique is distant from Lisbon's downtown area, its main tourist attractions and does not have a metro station yet, the market is mostly visited by local residents. This is a nice place meet friends, order a meal and some drinks and hang out in the evening! The food court remains open until 11:00pm on weekdays and until midnight on weekends.
Visiting Mercado de Campo de Ourique is a true local experience in Lisbon!
