Fado music, the Saint George's Castle, beautiful viewpoints and plenty of history. The picturesque neighborhood of Alfama, in Lisbon, Portugal, represents the city at its best. After all, Lisbon was born here. Its steep streets and narrow alleys hide the marks left by Phoenicians, Romans, Moors and every other civilization which have ever settled in this part of the Iberian peninsula.
Alfama is home to the oldest still standing construction in Lisbon, more specifically at Rua dos Cegos. It was built in the early 16th century, it has survived the 1755 earthquake due to its small dimensions and strong foundations. This house is located right behind the famous Amalia mosaic, very close to the Portas do Sol viewpoint.
