Known for its beautiful sunrises, Nugget Point lighthouse is nestled on the rugged eastern coastline. One of the country’s oldest lighthouses, Nugget Point got its name due to the scattered rocky islets in the sea below. Located an hour south of Dunedin, the lighthouse is a short walk from the carpark, with beautiful views looking out to the Pacific Ocean!
Remember: The cliffs are fragile with steep drop-offs, stay on marked paths.
Personal tip: There is a seal colony nearby! You will likely hear them chattering to each other, and may even spot one or two at the bottom of the cliffs and along the rocky coastline.
