A personal favourite, this cliffside track is located near Piha in West Auckland. The loop track takes approximately 1.5 hours, starting and finishing at Log Race Road. There are multiple scenic viewpoints, towards Lion Rock and Piha beach in the North, Mercer Bay and Karekare Beach to the south. The views across the Tasman Sea are unparalleled, it’s mesmerising watching the waves and marvelling at the dramatic seaside cliffs.
There are some steep sections and stairs, it is a moderate walk suitable for most fitness levels.
Remember: There are steep cliffs, stay on the marked paths and keep an eye on children.
Personal tip: Did I already mention this is one of my favourite short walks in Auckland? I recommend walking the loop anticlockwise - this way you will generally have the views ahead of you. You can also walk the trail as an out-and-back to the viewpoint, as the second half of the circuit is not as interesting…
