Hike
2-3h
If you thought you were in New Zealand, think again - the dramatic scenes at Lake Marian make you feel like you are in Canada. This beautiful alpine lake is nestled in a bowl of spectacular mountains. The scenic reflections on this secluded lake are a dream for photographers, particularly during golden hour! If you're brave in summer, you may even be tempted to take a dip in the glacial-fed lake to cool off.
The track begins near the Hollyford Road and follows a beautiful stream, ascending through dense forest. It is a 3-4 hour return track, steep and uneven in sections, requiring a moderate level of fitness. The hike is challenging, but incredibly rewarding too!
Remember: The track can be slippery, particularly after rain, so wear appropriate footwear and be cautious. Always hike within your ability, carry a PLB and let someone know your trip intentions.
Personal tip: Allow extra time for photos! This was such a beautiful, beautiful location despite the sprinkling rain shower when we visited, I absolutely loved the walk.
