This Nelson-Tasman icon is a unique granite rock formation that looks like a giant apple sliced in half - hence the name. It’s located just offshore of Towers Bay near Kaiteriteri and can be accessed via a short, steep walking track. Towers Bay boasts stunning golden sandy beaches and crystal clear water, like many of the other beaches in the Abel Tasman area.
Since it requires a short walk to access Towers Bay, it is often more quiet than the neighbouring Kaiteriteri, however it’s a popular spot with photographers and there are often tour groups visiting Split Apple Rock. You can also take a short boat ride or kayak trip from Kaiteriteri to get up close to the unique rock.
Remember: Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat, the New Zealand sun is brutal in summer!
Personal tip: We were able to swim to Split Apple Rock from Towers Bay, it’s such a fascinating and unique rock, we loved it!
Pronunciation: Kaiteriteri: Kai-teh-ree-teh-ree
