Castle Hill is located between Christchurch and Arthurs Pass. It’s known for its large limestone features, a boulder field set against a beautiful landscape with mountains as the backdrop. The area is a popular filming location - you may recognise it from scenes in Narnia.
The limestone formations are a great site for rock climbing and bouldering. There are also several walking tracks for visitors to enjoy the unique landscape.
Remember: The area is exposed with minimal shade. It is recommended to take a sunhat and raincoat, and apply sunscreen, whatever the weather.
Personal tip: Castle hill is beautiful at sunrise and sunset for photography and to avoid any crowds! Take a drink bottle and snacks, it’s also a beautiful spot for a picnic.
