Message from Abigail Hannah

One of New Zealand's iconic must-dos, Hot Water beach got its name for the hot springs that come up through the sand. At low tide, you can dig a hole in the sand and enjoy your own natural hot tub on the beach. Cool off with a dip in the ocean afterwards.

These springs are amazing year round, they are a treat in winter!

Remember: The hot springs are only exposed at low tide, aim to visit x2 hours either side of low tide! Shovels can be rented from the carpark, or bring your own.

Personal tip: It can get extremely busy on a crowded day. If you don't want to dig your own hole, wait for someone else to leave and you may be able to claim theirs :)
