As I explored, I was struck by its ancient charm and the vibrant, lush greenery that seemed to hum with life. With its ancient vines and towering canopy that have stood for over 180 million years, this is the world’s oldest tropical rainforest, and you can truly feel the history in every leaf.

To get there, you’ll need to catch a ferry across the Daintree River, which runs continuously from 5 am to midnight for $49 return. I found that one full day was enough to soak in the highlights, but if you’re keen on longer walks or activities, there are plenty of campsites and accommodations within the rainforest.

Whether you’re wandering along winding trails or cruising the river, you’ll encounter exotic wildlife like playful cassowaries and elusive tree kangaroos. Don’t miss cooling off in one of the crystal-clear swimming holes—they’re nature’s ultimate refreshment. And make sure your camera is ready; the towering trees and dense canopy create an Instagram-worthy kaleidoscope of green that’s simply breathtaking.
