Lake Argyle was my introduction to Western Australia and it did not disappoint. The lake is a massive freshwater reservoir that is home to a diverse ecosystem, with 26 fish species and around 25,000 freshwater crocodiles. It's also a haven for birds, attracting about 150,000 waterbirds.

This destination is a remote, wild, and stunningly beautiful spot. When planning your visit, there are a few options to consider. If you're eager to explore Lake Argyle, you'll likely need a full day, making staying at the caravan park near the lake the most practical choice, despite its somewhat steep price tag. The drive from Kununurra is quite lengthy, and since I don't recommend driving after dusk, staying at the caravan park is your best bet.

An unpowered site at the caravan park costs around $54.00, or you can opt for a $ 15.00-day pass, which allows access to amenities like the infinity pool—a favorite among visitors for its stunning views and refreshing waters.

While the pool is a popular attraction, I highly encourage you to venture further and explore the lake itself. Consider taking a leisurely walk around the ranges or booking a boat tour for a more immersive experience.

Personally, I found the Bluff Lookout Walk a highlight. This 4.5km trail is relatively flat but exposed, so be sure to stay sun-safe as it can get quite hot. The views from the Bluff Lookout are absolutely worth the effort, offering a panoramic perspective of the expansive and awe-inspiring landscape surrounding Lake Argyle.
