Waterfall

Josephine Falls in Wooroonooran National Park is one of those jaw-dropping spots you simply have to see to believe. The waterfall, fed by rain from Queensland’s tallest peak, Mount Bartle Frere, is an absolute paradise for nature lovers. The water here is so vibrant and crystal-clear, cascading gracefully over a series of granite boulders into inviting pools that are perfect for a refreshing dip.

This popular spot attracts both tourists and locals from around Cairns, so be prepared to share the falls with families and fellow adventurers. I visited after conquering the summit of Mount Bartle Frere, and let me tell you, the swim was a much-needed and healing treat for my tired muscles. The big boulder that the water flows down acts as a natural water slide, so much fun! I saw some daring people sliding down on their feet, while I opted for a more cautious bum-slide.

There’s also a scenic 5-10 minute walk to the top falls, which are beautiful but not open for swimming. While you soak in the beauty of this natural wonder, don't forget to pack a picnic, this spot is perfect for a leisurely lunch surrounded by lush rainforest. Just keep an eye on the weather, as conditions can change quickly and flash flooding is a possibility year-round. Nature's power here is awe-inspiring, but safety should always be your top priority!

Despite the potential risks, Josephine Falls offers a magical experience with its vibrant scenery and invigorating swim spots. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to dive into the wild beauty of Far North Queensland!
