Message from Abigail Hannah

Just south of Auckland in the Hunua Ranges, this gem is tucked away in the bush. The size of the waterfall can change throughout the year depending on the level of rainfall and flow of water, from a narrow drop to a huge, roaring waterfall. It's a good picnic spot and there are several tracks you can do nearby in the Hunua Ranges.

Remember: Do not swim at the falls, there are strong currents and have been deaths in the past.

Personal tip: Enjoy exploring the area around the falls, and the different tracks in the Hunua ranges. Visit after heavy rain to see it at its fullest and feel the spray from across the plunge pool.

Pronunciation: Hunua: hoo-noo-aa
