Tasman Peninsula is home to three iconic capes, each offering stunning views and unique experiences. There's a fantastic 4-day hike that takes you to all three capes, complete with great cabins and facilities. However, this trek requires booking through Parks and Wildlife Services and comes with a price tag of $475. While this is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, it was beyond my budget, so I opted for a different approach.

Instead of the full hike, I explored two of the capes individually: Cape Raoul (15.6 km) and Cape Hauy (10.1 km). The third cape, Cape Pillar, involves a 34 km hike which is way too far for me to enjoy without feeling rushed for daylight. So, I chose to take a Tasman Island cruise to see Cape Pillar and Tasman Island from a different perspective.

The boat tour was an incredible way to experience the rugged coastline of southern Tasmania, cruising between Port Arthur and Eaglehawk Neck. We sailed beneath the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere at Cape Pillar, where you can spot seals, seabirds, and, if you are lucky, dolphins and migrating whales too. The cruise cost $175, which was a stretch for my usual budget, but considering the price of the full hike, it felt like a bargain.

This eco-friendly cruise offered breathtaking views and a unique vantage point, making it a fantastic option for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Whether you’re into wildlife spotting or simply soaking up the stunning scenery, this tour is a must-do.
